Walton runs a very successful junior section, which currently comprises around 200 playing juniors. The club offers a safe and friendly environment for children to have fun learning how to play cricket.
Coaching is delivered by ECB level 2 and level 3 qualified coaches for children of all ages. In 2010 Walton was awarded ClubMark status, recognising our ‘Safeguarding Children Policy’ and high standards of cricket coaching.
To contact individual age-group managers, please see the table below. For more information about our junior section in general, please contact our Head of Juniors, George Cates.
Junior Boys and Girls
We run coaching sessions for children aged between five and 15. Age groups from U5 to U11 train on a Sunday morning, where they are trained by a combination of professional coaches and junior volunteers; U12s to U15s train on weekday evenings.
The junior section is also effective in easing younger players into senior cricket. Our 4th XI has a proven track record of preparing juniors for higher levels of cricket, while our internal competition The Smash allows juniors to play alongside our senior cricketers.
We are also committed to further developing our girls’ section and we run a specialist girls’ session on a Sunday morning, with some members playing for our Senior Women’s team: the Pens.
Cygnets (girls and boys aged five to seven)
A fun and interactive cricket programme for our youngest budding cricketers. We welcome boys and girls aged 5 to 7 of all skill levels to come and see what cricket is all about in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Although membership payments are crucial to the running of our club, we appreciate that some prospective cricketers may wish to try it before committing to membership. Junior Girls & Cygnets can participate on a pay-as-you-go basis, £5 per session, we ask that Junior Boys sign up to the membership after 3 trial sessions.
For specific age-group information, please contact age group managers. For general enquiries about our junior section, please contact our Head of Juniors, George Cates.
